About Katrina Garvey

Katrina Garvey is a Meanjin | Brisbane-based photo-video-installation artist. Katrina is profoundly prelingually d/Deaf. Katrina completed a Bachelor of Photography degree (majoring in Photojournalism and Documentary Practices) at the Queensland College of Art. Her practice explores deafness, sexuality, gender and language. Katrina’s recent exhibitions include porous, at Firstdraft, Face Me: The Art of Deafhood, at Lismore Regional Gallery, and Streetlight: Meet Me There, at ElevatorARI. Katrina’s work is included in the 2019 and 2020 editions of Loud and Luminous, a celebration of Australian women and non-binary photographers, held in the National Library of Australia. Katrina was also a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award in 2023.
